Hasle Summerfun boats are made of rotomolded polyethylene. Polyethylene was invented in 1898 by German scientist Hans von Pechmann. In 1933, English scientists Reginald Gibson and Eric Fawcett further developed the material. Since the 1950s, polyethylene has been used for various applications such as pipes, containers, bottles, toys, automotive parts, garden furniture, plastic pallets, and, for over 25 years now, Summerfun boats.
Polyethylene is a lightweight material known for its strength, flexibility, and toughness. It is practically indestructible and requires minimal maintenance. Polyethylene is highly resistant to moisture and UV rays, which means products made from polyethylene will hardly lose their color. A polyethylene boat never needs to be painted or varnished. For these reasons, polyethylene is an excellent, virtually maintenance-free material for building Summerfun boats.
Unlike a polyester boat, polyethylene boats do not experience osmosis. Therefore, body coatings, osmosis treatments or antifouling treatments are not necessary for polyethylene boats. Maintenance for polyethylene boats is thus kept to an absolute minimum. To keep your boat in good condition, we recommend the following maintenance tips for Summerfun boats:
- Regularly clean the boat (and motor) with a soft sponge and lukewarm water.
- Clean the bottom of the boat once a month. Tip: Beach the boat and clean the bottom with a soft sponge.
- Always take the boat out of the water and clean it thoroughly at the end of the season.
- Cleaning agents are usually unnecessary, but never use aggressive cleaning agents or abrasive sponges.
- Store the boat preferably dry and frost-free during winter.
